WHAT ARE SOLIDARITY NETWORKS?

"Come with me and I will show you how to get followers". Mt. 4; 19

Solidarity Networks are a group of social, Christian or other Confessions agents which, in a cordial, free and disinterested way, help each other by putting at the disposition of the other the task he/she usually performs at work and his/her knowledge . The purpose of this is to achieve goals which have deep evangelical roots and are aimed at dignifying the poor and needy and the social agents themselves.

This work spirit is made real in the following way: If the agent is joined, after the explanation of the basic objectives of the solidarity network which correspond to his/her social role, a card is filled with his/her personal and professional data. This information is included in a form (internal network) which also has the information of the other agents. This new member will receive this updated form in order to be able to ask the help of his/her colleagues (making the evangelic mission true).

This project is coordinated by Pastoral Sectorial del Departamento Episcopal de laicos / DEPLAI ("Pastoral Sector of the Non-religious Episcopal Department), and means a joint effort between this institution and other Movements and Institutions of the Church in order that each member may decide his/her involvement in a task carried out by the Argentine Church as a whole, in which he/she has to contribute his/her ecclesial charisma and his/her knowledge as social agent. That is the reason why such person has to join to the solidarity network related to his/her labour and/or professional task. This work does not mean to stop taking part in the Movement or Institution (on the contrary), it means to work in the social part through the exchange of information with my non-religious brothers and other goodwill people. This is the most important ongoing effort to make a change and CHARITY NETWORK in our community in view of the Third Millennium.

Each Network has a database in a PC, linked with the other Networks (which allows a permanent communication and help among them), as well as terminals placed at in each office of each joined Movement or Institution. This generates an exchange and communion experience (using Information Technology as a tool) which was previously unknown in our Church.

This IT linkage (which, of course, is not essential to participate in the networks) is available for any member of the Network (only the solidarity help information and not the own information of each Institution or Movement).

1-SOLIDARITY NETWORK OF HEALTH PROFESSIONALS

It is a group of professionals, whether Christian or not, who, in a cordial, free and disinterested way, help each other by seeking the accomplishment of goals which have deep evangelical roots and are aimed at dignifying the patients and the professionals themselves.

This work spirit is made real in the following way:

If the professional is joined, after the explanation of the basic objectives of this solidarity network, he/she provides his/her personal and professional data. This information is included in a database (internal network) which also has the information of the other professionals.

This new member will receive this updated form in order to be able to ask the help of his/her colleagues for his/her patients (making the evangelic mission true).

Basic objectives which are tried to be met in the different work teams:

I

Achieve a Complete Assistance to the Patient in its Three Dimensions: Medical, Spiritual and Psychological.

Method: with just a smile, which humanizes the relationship, we may open the heart of each patient in order that every action may be more effective. The medical dimension, for the patient's physical recovery. The spiritual dimension, in order that the priest (clergyman) may, beyond formal aspects, delve deeply into the Holy Sacrament (specially in the case of patients with incurable or chronic diseases or disabilities). The psychological dimension in order to make the patient feel understood and loved.

II

Establish a Sanitary Network for poor patients or patients who have a difficult access to the Health System.

Method: every member of the pastoral sector has a list of other members, including phone numbers, speciality, place of work. In order to refer a patient to another specialist to have his/her opinion, I have to call my colleague first and arrange an interview with the patient. We should not give the phone numbers of the network members to the patients, unless authorised by the member.

III

Create a Community of Brothers

Method: In every place of work, many members of the pastoral sector are connected due to the network growth. Without omitting their personal education and beliefs in the different institutions they take part in, it is good for the network growth that the members may meet - with a regularity to determine - with the priest to pray together and to share good and bad moments of their professional task.

IV

Become involved with the Bioethical Problems generated by some Hospital Tasks.

V

Achieve the Social Reintegration of Our Patients.
